VIKING NECKLACE - VEGVISIR WOLF
Wolves featured prominently in many Nordic artifacts and myths, often carrying diverse meanings. Fenrir, one of the central figures in the myths, was the son of Loki and Angrboða. It was prophesied that he would break free from the chains that bound him, swallow the sun and the moon, and devour Odin during the Battle of Ragnarök.
However, there were other wolves in Norse mythology who were not seen as evil. Odin was often depicted with two wolves by his side, named "Geri" and "Freki." These loyal companions followed him into battle and roamed by his side.
The Vegvisir, literally meaning "that which shows the way," is known as the Viking Compass. It is believed that the Vegvisir symbol helps the wearer find their way, especially in harsh weather conditions. Mentioned in the Huld Manuscript, compiled by Geir Vigfusson, the Vegvisir is seen as a guiding symbol for navigating through life’s uncertainties. Derived from the Icelandic words "Vegur" (meaning "way") and "Visir" (meaning "signpost"), Vegvisir translates to "wayfinder."
This Viking necklace featuring the Vegvisir symbol alongside the wolf design reflects both the protective powers of the compass and the strength and loyalty of the wolf, creating a symbol of guidance and fierce protection.
