HANDCRAFTED WOODEN STATUE OF TYR
Honour your favourite Norse gods and goddesses with this amazingly detailed statue!
This special Viking figure depicts Tyr, the god of war and lawgiver of the gods. It is perfect for your altar, home decor, or simply to have the lawmaker of the Norse gods by your side!
Tyr is the ancient god of war and the lawgiver of the gods. He is the bravest of the gods and makes the binding of Fenrir possible by sacrificing his right hand. Once, he was the leader of the Norse pantheon but was later displaced by Odin.
Tyr was the son of Odin, although he is often depicted as the son of the giant Hymir. Like Odin, he shares many traits of the earlier Germanic war gods. Parallels in other mythologies and archaeological finds referring to a one-handed god suggest that this figure is very old, known in Northern Europe about one to two thousand years before Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda. Similarities are found with the one-handed Naudu in Irish mythology and with Mitra, the god of day, in Indian mythology.
The statue is made from beautiful ash wood, is highly detailed, and has a substantial weight. It makes a great gift for anyone interested in Norse mythology.
