Collection: Thors Hammer
Thor's Hammer Collection
In Viking Age Scandinavia, people wore a Thor's hammer to show their belief in Thor, a symbol of rebellion against those who wore cross amulets to symbolise their faith in Christ. It was also used to give strength and protection to the individual.
Thor's Hammer Mythos
Mjölnir, Old Norse Mjöllner, is in Norse mythology the hammer of the thunder god Thor and the symbol of his power. Forged by dwarfs, the hammer never failed Thor; he used it as a weapon to strike the heads of giants and as an instrument to sanctify people and things.
Mjölnir was stolen by the giant Thrym, who demanded the hand of the goddess Freyja as ransom. When Freyja refused to go to Thrym, Thor disguised himself as her and managed to seize the hammer, which had been brought out to sanctify him as Thrym’s bride. Thor then slaughtered Thrym and the other giants with the hammer.
